PET materials are called Polyethylene terephthalate for short, PET or PEIT (hereinafter referred to as PET), commonly known as polyester resin. It is a polycondensation of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Together with PBT, it is called a thermoplastic polyester, or a saturated polyester. In 1946, the first patent for PET was made in Britain, and the ICI formula was completed in 1949. However, after the US DuPont Co purchased the patent, the production device was established in 1953, and it is the first industrialized production in the world. Early PET are almost used in synthetic fibre (commonly known as China's polyester, dacron). Since 80s, PET has made breakthroughs in engineering plastics, and nucleators and crystallization promoters have been developed. At present, PET and PBT together as thermoplastic polyester become one of the five major engineering plastics.
PET is divided into fiber grade polyester chip and non fiber grade polyester chip.
(1) fiber grade polyester is used to make polyester staple and polyester filament, which is the raw material for processing fiber and related products of polyester fiber enterprises. Polyester is the largest variety in chemical fiber. (2) non fiber grade polyester as well as bottles, films and other uses, is widely used in packaging, electronics, electrical appliances, medical and health, construction, automotive and other fields. Packaging is the largest non fiber application market of polyester, and it is also the fastest growing field of PET. As a packing material
PET advantages:
1. has good mechanical properties, the impact strength is 3~5 times of other thin films, good bending resistance. 2. oil resistant, fat resistant, eenic acid, dilute alkali, and most of the solvent. 3. with high and low temperature performance, can be used for a long time at 120 degrees Celsius temperature range, short-term use of resistant to high temperature of 150 DEG C, -70 resistant to low temperature, and high and low temperature effects on the mechanical properties is very small. The permeability of 4. gas and water vapor is low, and it has excellent properties of gas resistance, water, oil and odor. 5. transparency is high, can prevent ultraviolet light, good luster. 6. non-toxic, tasteless, good health and safety, can be directly used in food packaging.
